Climb from 4380m to the pass at 4600m and descend to Ghopte at 3500m


Today we started out hiking in many layers as it was freezing as we were leaving Gosaikund. On the pass, driving winds of alot-per hour were almost blowing us down. Some funny videos on the true pass and photos as we descend.

As we descended west over the pass we caught our first view of the north-south draining valleys in the haze of the air pollution lower down. I was bummed to be descending into the lung-destroying pollution cloud, but also pretty excited about the cool photographic opportunity.

Just before dark we got to Ghopte where we met a really nice couple and they welcomed us into their guesthouse. This was a great alternative to a bivouac in the wind and snow which we were talking about during the last few hours on trail. It was really quiet in Ghopte and we took some pictures of the valley looking south and as the moon rose and clouds passed, made some photographs that looked like northern lights...
