All across the Philippines on the first of November, members of the Catholic faith visit the graves of their deceased relatives. The tradition has a long history in the Philippines dating to near the time of the Spaniard's arrival over 500 years ago. I visited the local cemetery (called "Camposanto" in Ilocano language) here in La Union and explored around during dusk. What I found was a very crowded, mildly festive atmosphere. Picnicking, lighting candles, reading prayers and generally hanging out seemed to be the activities of choice. As one friend explained, "It is like a family reunion for the dead." These images represent a few of the scenes at the "Camposanto" on November 1st. Enjoy!
